Cookies

The small files and settings BellaBye keeps on your device, and why. We only keep what BellaBye needs to work, and nothing that follows you around the web.

The short version

  • We only use cookies and similar storage that BellaBye needs to work, like keeping you signed in. These don’t need your permission, so we don’t ask.
  • Our own website statistics store nothing on your device and read nothing from it. You can still switch them off in Cookie settings.
  • We don’t use advertising cookies. If we ever add them, they’ll stay off until you say yes.
  • Your Day or Night choice and a few other settings are saved on your device.
  • You can clear them at any time in your browser’s settings.

1What cookies are

Cookies are small files a website saves on your device. Websites also use similar tools, like local storage, to remember your settings. On this page, we call them all cookies.

2Cookies we use

We sort what we use into three groups. Necessary cookies are always on. Our statistics are on unless you switch them off, in Cookie settings at the bottom of every page of our website. We don’t use any Marketing cookies.

NecessaryAlways on

Keeping you signed inRemembers that you’ve signed in, so you don’t need a new link every time you open BellaBye. It’s set by our sign-in provider and can only be read by our own servers, not by anything running on the page.Where: the BellaBye app. How long: up to 400 days, renewed while you use BellaBye, and removed when you sign out.
Day or NightRemembers whether BellaBye looks like day or night on this device.Where: the BellaBye app. How long: the quick sun and moon switch lasts until the next automatic change, at 7 am or 7 pm. Always Day or Always Night lasts until you change it.To confirm
Your settings in the appRemembers small choices you make on this device, so BellaBye works the way you left it: the child you last chose on Tonight; whether a story’s words are on or off; whether the sounds while a story is being made are on or off; whether you’ve already seen or put off our offers, such as Add to Home Screen, story-ready alerts or saving your story choices; the email address your sign-in link went to, to help if the link doesn’t work; and whether one of your child’s drawings is still being made, so we can tell you when it’s ready.Where: the BellaBye app. How long: until you clear them, except the sign-in address, which is removed when you sign in or after one hour, and the drawing note, which goes when you close the tab.
BellaBye on your deviceKeeps a copy of the app itself on your device, so it opens quickly and works without the internet (stories still need it). If you turn on story-ready alerts, your browser also keeps a registration so they can reach you.Where: the BellaBye app. How long: the app copy is replaced with each new version; the alert registration lasts until you turn alerts off.
Your cookie choicesRemembers what you chose in Cookie settings, so we don’t ask again. It’s only saved if you change a setting.Where: our website. How long: until you clear it in your browser.
PaymentsPaid plans aren’t on sale yet, while BellaBye is in its invitation-only beta. This is how they’ll work when they start. When you pay, you do so on a secure page run by Stripe, our payment provider. Stripe uses cookies there to keep payments safe and stop fraud. They’re set on Stripe’s own site, not on bellabye.com.Where: Stripe’s checkout page. How long: set by Stripe.

StatisticsOn unless you switch them off

BellaBye statisticsCounts visits and which pages are read, so we can make the site better. These are our own statistics, run on our own platform. They store nothing on your device and read nothing from it, so strictly they’re not cookies at all; we list them here so you know about them and can switch them off. They see the page you’re on, the website that sent you and your type of browser. Like every website, our servers also see your internet address. If you arrived from a link with campaign tags, for example from an advert, we hold those tags only while the page is open, and only keep them if you send us a message. Nothing is shared with advertisers.Where: our website. How long: nothing is kept on your device.

The BellaBye app has no statistics cookies. It keeps its own record of what happens in the app, as our Privacy policy explains.

MarketingOnly with your OK

We don’t use these. If we ever add them, for example to see whether our adverts on Google, Facebook or Instagram work, we’ll ask you first, they’ll stay off unless you turn them on, and saying no will be as easy as saying yes. We’ll list each one here before it starts.

3What we don’t use

  • Advertising cookies, or anything that follows you around the web.
  • Anything that sells your information, or builds a profile of you or your child.
  • Tracking in our emails: we don’t check whether you open them or click their links.

4Your choices

Necessary cookies are always on, because BellaBye won’t work properly without them. Our statistics are on unless you switch them off, and you can change your mind at any time.

You can also see and delete cookies in your browser’s settings. If you clear them, you’ll need to sign in again, your Day or Night choice and other settings will reset, and any cookie choice you made will be forgotten.

5Changes to this policy

If we change the cookies we use, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. We’ll never turn on a new kind of cookie that needs your permission without asking you first.
